Born to be a Dhobi

Dhobi is a word for laundry worker.  Many neighborhoods have Dhobis.  There are public laundries that pick-up, wash, iron, and return your cleaned laundry to your home in about a week’s time.  Dhobis are uneducated and learn this trade from their parents.  This skill is passed from generation to generation.  According the tour guide that took us to see this phenomenon, the people that perform this service are often called the “untouchables” and they are considered to be below the lowest of the four castes.
